Community guidelines

1. Who this applies to

Everyone with an account, and everything you publish through one: reviews, lists, profile text, avatars and backgrounds, names, and anything you send to another member.

These guidelines sit alongside the law of wherever you are. Something can be legal and still not belong here.

2. Writing about games

Write about the game. Say what it does, how it felt, who you think it is for. A review that is really about the developer's politics, the publisher's last game, or the people who disagree with you is not a review.

Disliking something is not an insult and nobody has to justify their taste. Saying a game is not for you is always fine. Saying that people who like it are stupid is not.

• Mark spoilers before you write them, and assume the reader has not finished the game.
• Do not review a game you have not played to make a point about something else.
• Do not organise or join a coordinated push to raise or sink a game's rating. Ratings are worth something only while they mean what they say.

3. How to treat people

Argue with the point, not the person. You will meet people here whose favourite game you think is worthless; that is most of the value of the place.

• No harassment, pile-ons, or following somebody around the site to keep arguing.
• No attacks based on who somebody is - race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
• No threats of violence, and no encouraging anyone to hurt themselves.
• No posting private information about anyone, including yourself. Real names, addresses, workplaces, and photographs of people who did not agree to be here do not belong on a games site.

4. Content that is not allowed

• Sexual content involving minors, in any form, drawn or otherwise. This is reported to the authorities and the account is removed permanently, without appeal.
• Content that sexualises real people who have not consented.
• Praise, promotion or fundraising for terrorism or mass violence.
• Material that infringes somebody else's copyright, including pasted review text, art you did not make, and pirated download links.
• Malware, phishing, and links whose destination is disguised.
• Advertising, referral spam, and bulk unsolicited messages.
• Deliberately false information about a real person presented as fact.

5. Accounts

• One person, one account. Extra accounts used to evade a suspension, inflate a rating, or manufacture agreement are removed together.
• Do not impersonate another person, a developer, a publisher, or Moymo itself.
• Do not automate the site without asking first. Reading it with a script is usually fine; writing to it with one is not.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account. Use a password you do not use anywhere else.

6. Reporting something

Every review, list and profile has a report control. Use it rather than replying - a reply is visible to everyone and a report is visible to a moderator.

Tell us what rule you think was broken and where. Reports that say only that something is wrong take longest to act on, because the first thing a moderator has to do is work out what you meant.

Reporting somebody repeatedly for things that are not rule breaks is itself a rule break.

7. What happens when a rule is broken

The response is meant to match what happened, and to be reversible wherever it can be:

• Content is hidden or removed, and you are told which rule it broke.
• Repeated breaks limit the account - publishing is switched off for a period.
• Serious or persistent breaks suspend the account.
• The things listed under content that is not allowed can remove an account on the first occurrence.

Enforcement is currently carried out by one person and is not automated. Nothing here is decided by a model.

8. If you think a decision was wrong

Reply to the message that told you about it, or write to the contact address on the privacy page, and say why. Include the link.

You will get an answer from a person. If the decision was wrong it is reversed and the content comes back.
